More Wi-Fi hijinks. Now it seems McDonalds is getting into the game. McDonalds, though, seems to be doing it right. Buy a combo meal, get an hour of Wi-Fi for free. They treat it as a perk, little extra incentive to pull people in, instead of a product in and of itself.

Of course, the official site says that the free service is only available during the promotional phase (until July 1). After that, everyone will pay.

I guess we’ll see where the market takes it. I think that eventually everyone will be giving it for free. But for now, we have the independents giving it away, and the big national companies like T-Mobile and Cometa charging for it. Who will come out on top?
