Glasshaus Gone

Why does it always seems like there’s more bad news than good news? The bad news this time around (to which I’m a couple of days late, as usual) is that Glasshaus, publisher of such great books as Usability: The Site Speaks for Itself, Cascading Style Sheets: Separating Content from Presentation, and Web Graphics for Non-Designers, has folded. Glasshaus was one of the few publishing companies that put out books about web design by web designers. They were always high-quality offerings by people well-known and respected in the community. Their parent company also owned Wrox Press, which has also apparently gone down the drain. This leaves New Riders and O’Reilly, which hopefully will be able to stay around. And maybe a spot for another publishing house to rise, one whose investors have more faith in the market.

Looks like I should stock up on my collection of Glasshaus books while I still can!

More here, here, here, here, ad infinitum.
