Past Brought to Life

I have to give a hat tip to Anil Dash for this one: the Charles W. Cushman Photograph Collection. Cushman donated 14,500 slides to Indiana University, taken from the 1930s to the 1960s during his travels across the country and around the world. The University has digitized them and posted them all on a website. Anil pointed out the collection of New York pictures from the 40’s, but my interest drifted to the Nevada pictures from the same era. Cushman seemed to love Virginia City, and these photos have been excellently preserved. The pictures are from 50 years ago, but the colors are so vibrant that they look like they were taken yesterday. Too bad he didn’t take any pictures in Carson or Reno. I’d love to put together a ‘Then and Now’ section on my site. So instead I’ll just put up 50 years of Piper’s Opera House in VC.
