Blake Lewis
Over at On The Air today I wrote about Blake Lewis and the Future of American Idol:
I mean, last night everybody was talking about what a “risk” he was taking, and how he was “rolling the dice”. But the thing is, what Blake did last night is something we should be seeing every week on this show, new frontiers being broken left and right. And for them to make such a big deal out of what he did reveals the truth: American Idol is a karaoke bar, and they’re not really looking for somebody to try anything new or break any barriers.
I also found a couple of clips of a pre-Idol Blake performing in Seattle:

I am just an average viewer – nothing of a musician. I watch AI for the same reasons as everybody else’s got: the drama, Simon’s too honest comments…
Blake has become the reason I stay watching. (It usually gets a little boring after we finish with the audition weeks, you know.) There’s always something new about him to look forward to.
Some people say beat boxing is cheating, some say he’s not a great singer… Well, if a great singer should be someone like Melinda then I’d rather not watching.
I like her – she’s very down to Earth and all that.. but you have to agree that there are about a hundred of Melindas out there. Blake Lewis…? Only one.
